Allan M. Stewart

Global Power Executive Director

Allan Stewart directs the analysis of North American electric power, global coal and other related fuel and emissions markets, translating PIRA's market analysis into commercial strategies for electricity and other energy companies. Prior to joining PIRA in 1992, Allan spent over 18 years with Consolidated Edison Company in various senior positions. In 2001, he worked with the George W. Bush Administration in formulating solutions to the U.S. Western energy crisis, and he has testified on a broad range of policy, economic, and energy issues.  He earned a B.S. in civil engineering at the State University of New York and an M.B.A. in finance and investments from Adelphi University; he has taken post-masters coursework in economics at NYU.


Scott M. Potter

Mr. Potter brings over thirty years of experience in the energy industry, including crude oil and natural gas trading. Mr. Potter began his career in the early 1980’s, working for UPG, Inc., Northern Natural Gas’ crude oil and condensate subsidiary. From there, Mr. Potter co-founded Aquila Energy, which developed into one of the industry’s leading marketers of natural gas. In the mid – 1990’s, Mr. Potter joined Texaco Natural Gas as Vice President of Natural Gas Trading, where he worked with Mr. E. Russell Braziel, who is now founder and President of RBN Energy, LLC. He holds a BBA in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota.


Peter Zeihan

Paul Douglas

Senior Meteorologist

Paul Douglas is Minnesota’s first American Meteorology Society (AMS) Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, with a 40-year on-air career in television, radio and print. He started reporting weather for AM radio in high school, had an 11 year run on KARE-11 in the Twin Cities, then WBBM-TV in Chicago, before returning to WCCO-TV, where he was Chief Meteorologist until 2008. In 2004 Barnes and Noble released his national book, “Restless Skies”, focused on weather and climate issues.  Mr. Douglas is Founder and Senior Meteorologist at AerisWeather, providing data, applications and technology for business, consumers and media. In 2011 his company launched “WeatherNation TV”, a new national 24-7 weather channel. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from Penn State.


J. Drake Hamilton

Ms. Hamilton is Fresh Energy’s Science Policy Director. An expert in climate policy at state and national levels, her responsibilities include scientific analysis and policy development of clean energy solutions to global warming that will maximize economic opportunities. She represented Fresh Energy at the Paris Climate Summit, and was invited by President Obama to meet with him in the White House. J. earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in physical geography from Dartmouth College and the University of Minnesota, with an emphasis on climatology and water resources, and was formerly assistant professor at The George Washington University. She was named among Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine’s 100 influential people “who make things happen.”


Robert Cleaves

CEO and President, Biomass Power Association

Mr. Cleaves is CEO and President of BPA,  the nation's leading voice for biomass as a means for generating electricity, representing over 2,000 MW of installed capacity. BPA maintains an active presence in Washington, and concentrates on federal tax and energy policy to promote the use of woody biomass for electricity use. In addition, he is managing director of Stratex Energy where he directs the firm’s federal tax and energy incentive practice that has resulted in national impacts on the pulp and paper, ethanol and alternative fuel industries.  For many years, he managed the nation’s largest renewable energy credit portfolio. Robert served as a federal prosecutor before entering private law practice. He serves on the Board of the New England Clean Energy Council, Maine Audubon, and Greater Portland Landmarks.    

Brendan Williams

Brendan Williams

Brendan Williams is the Executive Vice President of AFPM, the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers. He is responsible for leading AFPM’s government relations, communications, regulatory affairs, petrochemical and outreach departments as they work to educate policymakers, the press, stakeholder groups and the general public about the important role AFPM members and products play in daily life and the American economy. Mr. Williams also staffs the association’s chief policy development committee, which provides direct input to AFPM’s Executive Committee. He has been with the Association since 2007. In 2011, Washingtonian magazine named Mr. Williams one of DC’s top 40 lobbyists under the age of 40. Mr. Williams attended Syracuse University where he received a dual degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. He also received an MBA from George Mason University.


Andy Huenefeld

Mr. Huenefeld brings years of professional energy market experience, specializing in natural gas. In his current role, Mr. Huenefeld keeps clients up to date on the latest market developments and communicates the company’s future outlook on price risk management through webinars, conference calls, and publications. He helps clients create customized risk management plans to mitigate volatility and optimize price. Mr. Huenefeld obtained a B.S. with a concentration in finance from the University of Louisville. 


Nicholas Franco

Nick is the Director of Sustainability at U.S. Energy Services.  He is responsible for coordinating the company’s sustainability initiatives including energy efficiency, renewable energy, greenhouse gas and sustainability reporting, and sustainability strategy development. He holds an MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco, a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Minnesota, and bachelor degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics.


Casey Whelan

Vice President, Strategic Initiatives

Mr. Whelan is Vice President – Strategic Initiatives at U.S. Energy Services.  He has been with U.S. Energy for over 20 years and has worked in the energy industry for over 30 years.  Mr. Whelan leads U.S. Energy’s LNG Consulting Services and the Company’s growing Biogas Management and Optimization Services. Mr. Whelan works with large, energy intensive clients across North America helping them manage and reduce energy costs. Casey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota and a Masters degree in Regulatory Economics from the University of North Dakota.


Norm Cox

Director, Account Management

As Director, Account Management, Mr. Cox manages five account managers as well as several client accounts, including manufacturing and ethanol facilities. He also pursues new business and clients for U.S. Energy and assists existing clients with key energy related issues. Prior to U.S. Energy, Norm spent 20 years working as an engineer in the industrial process heating/drying industry. Norm holds a U.S. Patent for the design of an electrically heated gas convection oven and has a Master’s of Science Degree, Mechanical Engineering, University of North Dakota and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas.


Greg Walters

Director, Account Management

Mr. Walters manages a staff of four account managers along with managing his own set of clients to assist with ongoing energy supply management and procurement, price risk management and site development. Other responsibilities include the design of power delivery schemes, equipment requirements and system configurations to satisfy both the customer's needs and adherence to the utilities service and engineering standards. Greg holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri – Rolla and is a Registered Professional Engineer (PE).


Matt Haakenstad

Vice President, Advisory Services
U.S. Energy Services

Mr. Haakenstad manages the Advisory Services team at U.S. Energy Services. Their role is to assist customers in analyzing self-generation, combined heat and power (CHP), and grid interconnection of renewable energy projects such as solar, wind or biomass resources. 
Mr. Haakenstad and his team also analyze natural gas pipeline bypass and direct connect projects, plant site selection analysis, competitive electric power market dynamics, CNG opportunities, and opportunities for sustainability and energy efficiency projects at client facilities.  
Matt has an MBA from the University of Minnesota and a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Minnesota, and holds a CEM certification from the AEE. 


Bill Bathe

SVP, Global Market Development
World Fuel Services

Bill Bathe serves as Senior Vice President, Global Market Development, for World Fuel Services, U.S. Energy’s parent company.  In this role, Bill is responsible for the corporation’s launch of providing energy management services to clients outside of North America. The energy management services include procurement and logistics of natural gas and power, risk management, data management, infrastructure consulting, and sustainability services. Prior to World Fuel Services, Mr. Bathe was CEO and founder of U.S. Energy Services, which he led for more than two decades. Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Creighton University.  In addition, he is a graduate of the Executive Development Program at the University of Chicago and is a Registered Professional Engineer.


Geoff Inge

Director of Regulatory Services

Mr. Inge manages U.S. Energy’s Regulatory Services Department providing strategic advice, economic analysis and expert witness testimony to clients and client groups intervening in natural gas and electric rate cases at the state and federal level. Mr. Inge has more than 25 years in the regulatory services industry and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Virginia (1976) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia's Colgate Darden School of Business Administration (1979). 


Steve Willins

Director of Electric Services

With more than 35 years of experience working in the energy and utilities profession, Steve is responsible for the delivery of our electric services and for new product and service development.  He worked as a large C&I account rep for a major investor owned utility for more than a decade, including collaborative work with their Rate Department on rate design issues and their Marketing Department on demand side management products and services. Steve has spent the past two decades working on behalf of commercial, industrial and institutional entities in the areas of electric, natural gas and water/wastewater rate tariff analysis, strategic sourcing of electricity in virtually every deregulated market in North America, and infrastructure consulting.  
Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University and has completed non-degree course work in Accounting and Economics at the University of Cincinnati.


Sam Tougher

Sam Tougher joined U.S. Energy in 2016 as Electric Markets Manager with seven years of professional energy market experience.  Sam’s energy exposure is rooted within electric power and physical gas markets.  Sam helps clients ranging from large power generators to end-users of retail electricity navigate the intricacies of regional power markets to manage risk and maximize value.  Sam obtained a B.S. with a concentration in economics and finance from the University of Louisville. 


Peter Brown

Peter oversees the management of U.S. Energy including consultancy services, operations, credit and contracts, sales and marketing, accounting and finance. He has broad energy expertise in wholesale and retail energy markets, sustainability and asset optimization services and strategic planning. Prior to joining U.S. Energy, he spent seven years at a global energy management company as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. From 1996 to 2008 he served in various Senior Legal Counsel functions with Constellation Energy Group, Northeast Utilities, Enviropower, Frost Brown Todd, and Smith, Currie & Hancock, LLP. He holds a J.D. from the University of Kentucky and a B.A. from the University of Dayton.
